Droid Invasion Plot Ending Details, A Rule Update, and Point Update/Question

Hello Excellent Players!

Droid Invasion Plot Resolution Details

The Droids are gone. NYC is all back in the right universe. The Different are on the right planet. AKA, the Droid Invasion plot is over.

Because the characters didn’t destroy command centers, the resolution of the plot is that the Bureau was able to recalibrate matters and unstick the converged universes.

A few things for clean up:

⇀ If your character collected anything during the plot and put them in their homes – they can keep that. (No, not tanks whole because those do not fit through doors.) But anything that could have been carried through a door is fair game to keep.

⇀ A few characters died during this plot: Jim Hopper and Bitterblue Monsea. Look for an announcement from The Bureau about this.

For now, the Privacy Filter still works, as Bitterblue hid her work well. But, this does mean changes are coming… Mod Laughter

Unrelated to Plot Notes but Relevant to the Game

  1. We will be amending one of our rules – under Reserves and Apps where we say:

“Players can attempt to app the same character up to three (3) times. After that, whether due to rejection or dropping and picking the character back up, a player can no longer apply for that character.”

We will be amending this to:

“After three (3) rejections with no successful apps into the game, a player can no longer attempt to apply to the game.”

This will be updated on the following pages: FAQ, Reserves, and Apps within a few days.

  2. After giving it some thought, we decided to rework the Points System. This will start in November. We wanted to give players more opportunities to gain points while balancing it so it doesn’t go overboard. We will preview the new system before it goes into effect.

Going forward, we also plan to include Basic, Middling, and Full forms on the AC posts, so that a player can submit basic AC without the hassle of deleting a bunch of code. The Middling and Full forms will be for various degrees of point gains depending on how much work a player wants to put in.

And regarding the Points System – we have a poll we want to ask of players:

Currently it costs 6 points for a player to run a game-wide plot, but a player also earns 10 points for doing so.

⇀ Is the point cost of running a game wide plot prohibitive in your opinion?

⇀ Should a player wanting to run a game wide plot cost points?

⇀ If “No”, how many points should a player earn for running a game wide plot?

Anon commenting will be turned on for this poll. Put your answers in a comment below. Players have until 10/15/2020 to respond.

That is our news...for now. More Mod Laughter Stay tuned and stay excellent to each other!

Hi all!

I'm Beth and I am new to the game. I am bringing you, Martha Jones, from Doctor Who. She is going by Martha Nightingale here and is a doctor is her Alternate life as well. She knows Jack Porter and dated John Smith very briefly so she will be surprised to see him again. I can be reached at [plurk.com profile] plentyofwords for plotting or whatever!

Martha and I are very friendly and stoked to be here.

Mod Announcement

A quick heads up wonderful players!

There will be a plot this month that will start on the Autumnal Equinox (Sept. 22) and will last about a week, which means the plot will take place for the last week of the month. Due to the nature of the plot, the ability to opt-out will be minimal. This will not give people wishing to opt out a chance to do new things in the setting until the plot is over. Therefore, we are giving a heads-up now so that players can square away their minimum AC in the first three weeks of the month if they end up deciding they do not want to engage with the plot.

So now you all know.

If there are any questions, make sure to use the mod contact.

Heeeey! This is Penbee, player of Aziraphale/Mr. Fell here with my second character. Erik is a jrpg thief character, kinda a cool, slightly cynical sort of guy, and canonmate to Elliott and Umberto. He's a good pal to have at your side, especially if you've gotta go to a big tree and fight off Darkness. Or if you wanna break out of prison. But please stop making this boy jump from such great heights.

Here he's a fairly normal 20yo guy with a sense of wanderlust who is currently working as a bike courier and occasional postmate/etc delivery man around the city. Lost? He can probably give directions. Need something? He probably knows a guy.

I've been fighting computer troubles so please bear with me on slow tagging for him and Fell. I think I have most people already, but if not, feel free to add me on plurk (I'm penbee there, too) and I'd do the fancy link, but I forgot how.

Anyway, hi!

Hi everyone! This is Ang, Martin Whitly's player, bringing in my second ... Ellie Miller from Broadchurch! She goes by Ellie Wright in this life, and she's just arrived ICly, too, having come over from Scotland to babysit her stepbrother Alec.

She was really not prepared to have to move here, but once she gets to know everyone she will mom the heck out of you. In canon she comes from a community where everyone knows everyone, so the subconscious pull to be the same way with all the Different is gonna be pretty strong. If you haven't already added me over on Plurk because of Martin, you're certainly welcome to do so now! You can find me over there as [plurk.com profile] hopepunk.

I leave you with peak Alec and Ellie:

Mod Announcements!

Hello Everyone!

We have a few rather mundane housekeeping announcements to make.

Many you may have noticed that due to the last DW code push, our game pages got borked. After fiddling with the code, we’ve figured out a way to fix the situation, and we will be updating the pages to reflect the new code. Though be patient with us, we may be slow at this.

In the process, we decided this was a perfect time to also update and add to our FAQ/Rules, make a small change to one part of the Points System, and rework the Player Communications Page. We explain each change below.

FAQ/Rules Page
We’ve clarified a few existing rules, expounded a bit on a few, and added a few rules. Mostly these changes are things that we’ve been asked about, and a few things we realized were not as clear as we thought they were.

All changes are currently in red for easy finding.

Everyone should look over the page to familiarize themselves with the changes.

Points Page
Recently we realized that meta power regain items could have either simple or complex meta powers, and it didn’t seem right for those to cost the same amount of points. So we’ve restructured the cost added to items for meta powers. The complex meta power items cost the original additional price for meta power items. The additional cost of simple meta power items is less than that.

The change is reflected in the chart detailing the cost of item regains.

Player Communication Page
Almost as soon as we opened the game, we realized that requiring players to track the comments of this page results in players’ inboxes being spammed. But we did not want to stymie the flow of player creativity. We wanted players communicating!

We needed to come up with a system that players could track, so they could know when another player wanted to pick up a canonmate, that didn’t restrict player creativity, but also didn’t spam everyone’s inboxes. We admit it took us a while to figure this out.

The new system will include a top-level wherein a player can announce their intent to bring in a canonmate, this top-level will be the one we ask players to track. No other comments will be posted in this top-level. Prospective players will post their form for plotting and communicating as their own top levels, which do not need to be tracked. This way, players can carry on their creative conversations without spamming everyone’s inboxes.

However, this means that the current comments on the Player Communication Page will be erased. We will give everyone until this Saturday to save any information they want to keep from that page and then we will delete the old comments and switch in the new system.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to Contact Us. You are all awesome, be excellent to one another, and happy playing!

Hello~!

A new face around these parts, I'm Charlemagne and I'll be bringing in the Tenth Doctor. On Earth, he's a dreadfully bored astrophysics professor at Columbia University who has trouble making and keeping friends. Tends to talk too much, too quickly - and people always seem to leave. In another life, another universe, he's the Doctor, a time and space faring Time Lord from the distant, lost planet of Gallifrey, apparently the last of his kind (though we know that's not true at all!). He's far too intelligent for his own good, and is good at making friends - and making enemies. I'm playing the Tenth Regeneration here, as portrayed by David Tennant (and apparently, there's a club, from what I understand.)

Fresh meat here, mostly in this poor bastard's skull. Jecht Zankander is a professional football player who bounced into and out of fame, so perhaps you've heard of him if you keep track of the NFL or sportsball sportsprograms. Properly, though, Jecht is the really bad father in Final Fantasy X, who helped save the world, spent years afterward involuntarily crapping it up again, and ultimately died. Then he came back to the magic school of Diatu, which means he gets to be a CRAU too!

Me, I'm Dragon, I'm at [plurk.com profile] ultimaweapon, and I'm ready for some wacky hijinks! (Jecht, of course, is not.)

Puzzle Cracking

Thanks so much to everyone who worked on cracking the puzzle that was posted to the network last month!

For those who would like to see the answer, please click here.

The black boxes next to the video contain the lyrics of the second verse of the song Us and Them by Pink Floyd, which is the song featured in the video. The puzzle is revealed if you click on the last line of lyrics. The puzzle is a keyword cipher using the beginning of the line of lyrics, which makes the keyword ‘theresrom’.

This is what is revealed when using this keyword to solve the cipher:

“I have to be careful in what I say in these posts. I’m trying to give you information without getting you in too much trouble, you know. If I dropped everything I know, it would be...Bad for you. But did you work out the significance of the deed I sent you a copy of? I hope you did.

Anyway, I will say that at this point you don’t have a bead on who or what Mr. Martin is. None of you do. All I can say right now: he’s not as simple as you think he is.

I do want to warn you of something else. Now that you have the option to be private, don’t go and post everything privately. Post as much public stuff as you can think of that you normally would have posted on a regular basis, from here on out. You understand what I mean? If they figure out there’s an underground network...It won’t be good. Not for any of us.”

We hope you enjoyed this element of the game!

State of the Game Survey

Thanks so much to everyone who submitted an answer for the State of the Game survey that was posted at the six-month anniversary of the game. From what the answers had to say, we feel we’re on the right track with things. Another survey will likely be posted at the one-year anniversary.

Hello, there! My name is Tseil, a newbie, and I bring you an OP Wizard from Tsubasa Chronicle: Fai. He'll go by Jeremy (or Jem is his preferred name) here, and works at the Lotus Bar as a bartender.

For those canonblind to Fai, he behaves all perky and becomes the self-proclaimed Mommy of the group (teasing a very grumpy ninja into being Daddy). However, his dark past Is A Problem™, and it's mostly a mask. He goes around to multiple worlds helping his party members collect a Princess' lost memories that have taken the form of feathers. Fai, as stated up above, is extremely powerful - even with his power halved due to damaging circumstances, he's still able to perform on of the most powerful magicks: traveling to other worlds.

Fai's past and character arc are.... pretty dark. And I want him to be happy here, so don't expect him to get a lot, if any, of the worse memories back. I also brought him before the damaging parts of his arc, from Piffle World - a world of Cute Stuff and Races with equally cute air vehicles. So he's not canon savvy to what happens after Volume 12 at all.

Jeremy comes from a family of overly pushy parents who wanted him to become a doctor. After he reached a breaking point, he went to go live with his grandparents and began to reopen himself to trying new things and enjoying life as it comes. He does have a grudge against his parents, but has a deep bond with his siblings. His grandparents take care of him in a tight spot, but overall, he tries to be self-providing nowadays. He also takes care of his beloved aviary. So if you end up being over there and not on official business, he might invite you to come see his beautiful greenhouse birds - with his favourite being a Victorian Crown Pigeon named Windam. If he feels pressured, or that you're unnecessarily being a bully, he'll get mad, but is otherwise pretty chill. He loves to serve people, for the most part, and will go out of his way to make someone happy.

Anyway, I'm excited to be here, and I look forward to playing with you all!

If you want to add me on [plurk.com profile] Tseil, I always accept friend requests.

New NPC & Puzzle

You may have noticed the post that went up last night on the network from a mysterious contributor, a.k.a. a newly revealed NPC. You can feel free to work on the puzzle here in the comments, or ICly on the puzzle post itself.

You're welcome to address the NPC directly if you wish, but the NPC is unlikely to respond at this time.

Mod Announcement

Greatest of news, everyone!

Bitterblue has finally finished what she started back in March: she has found a way to give characters privacy from the Bureau on the Network. Her first filtered from the Bureau network post is here!

For now, in order to have privacy, players just need to put one of the following in the subject line of their post:

    • Filtered from the Bureau; or
    • Filtered

And then the post and all the comments are hidden from the Bureau. These designations on the Network will only apply to enacting privacy from the Bureau.

As this is a first step in a series, the filter can only be applied to the posts when it is posted. Meaning it cannot be applied to individual comments after the post is made.

How does your character know about this filter? Bitterblue sent a handwaved text with instructions. Characters can either have found out directly from a text from her – players can handwave if their character and Bitterblue had ever exchanged phone numbers. Or players can assume another character in contact with Bitterblue relayed the instructions to your character - just talk to other players!

How will this affect the meta plot? The Bureau is in the dark for now. We shall see what the future brings.

Have fun, everyone. And be excellent to each another.

Plot Ideas

Hello, everyone! As we have all witnessed this past month with the Solstice plot, the bleedover effect between New York City and other universes has become stronger, allowing crossover between universes. Unknown to our heroes so far, this effect is strongest coming from their home universes, the universes where their bleedover memories are coming from. And given that we were hoping to run a more lighthearted plot for August, we wanted to first, remind all of you that you have the opportunity to submit for player-run plots of this nature, and second, solicit ideas for this coming month.

Some of the ideas we’ve come up with so far include things like:

⇀ The Trouble With Tribbles (Star Trek): Tribbles show up and begin to multiply rapidly.

⇀ Cartoon Plot: Characters are transformed into cartoons. Only the Different can see these changes.

⇀ Mythological/Fairy Tale Creatures: Characters become one of any different kind of mythological or fairy tale creatures.

⇀ Pokemon Invasion (Pokémon): The city becomes overrun with Pokémon.

Unfortunately, not all of the ideas we’ve come up with are feasible, simply because we don’t have a character in game from any of those canons! And we don’t have total familiarity with all of your canons, so we’ve had trouble inventing others.

The outcome of this post is simply for us to learn ideas you have for a lighthearted, fun plot for August that concerns one of your canons—or, if you have an idea for something a little more serious, just for us to get ideas from your canons that we can use later. Normally, a player-run plot would be just that: you, as the originator of the plot, would have to write up all information and plot posts yourself. However, if your idea is chosen for this month’s plot, the mods will take charge of coordinating the plot, with your input.

Please fill out the form below to give us your ideas!
