Exquinox Convergence Plot - Sept 2020

✦ Equinox Convergence Plot: Droid Invasion ✦
... And when my good dream came to an end, I woke up more than ready to bend ... Full Game Navigation
Plot Basics

Welcome to the September 2020 Equinox Convergence Plot: the Star Wars Clone Wars Droid Army Invasion.

On the morning of September 22, 2020, at exactly 6:30 am (that's right, bright and early in the morning!) parts of our universe will merge with the Star Wars Universe. And what will bleed over from that convergence will be an invading droid army.

Duration

Start: 9/22/2020 at 6:30 am EST
Finish: 9/30/2020 at 11:59 pm EST

Location

The boundaries will be the city of New York City. However! NYC will be a changed place - gone are the NPCs and only the characters and the Bureau personnel will remain. How is this possible? See below.

Objectives

1) Survive
2) Kick droid metal butt
3) Find and Destroy the three Droid Command Centers

The Convergence

When our universe and the Star Wars universe collide on the autumnal equinox, it will create a third plane of existence. This existence is comprised of the modern day city of New York City - all its buildings, landmarks, infrastructure - mixed throughout with swaths of various Star Wars planets' terrain.

Well, just fuck, right? It's as if the two universes smashed into each other and some parts of each got all mushed together. Your character will be walking down a block of NYC, turn a corner and then be confronted with a patch of Star Wars Universe. These patches might be just one city block, or stretch for multiple blocks. But at all times characters will be able to see NYC skyline in the distance.

It should be noted that these are only patches of the Star Wars universe, they don't lead deeper into the Star Wars universe than can be seen.

The one big thing is the lack of Earth NPCs. Only the characters and the Bureau personnel will remain of the sentient beings from our universe are here. Conversely, the only sentients that will exist from the Star Wars universe will be the droids outlined below.

The Invading Army

The invading droid army is comprised of four (4) different kinds of droids and two (2) kinds of ground assault vehicles. Each droid and assault vehicle has their strengths and weaknesses and can either be certain death or something a clever character can play to their advantage.

Happy hiding/fighting brave characters!

Basic Battle Droids

The main rank and file of the invading droid army, the Basic Battle Droid is the most common droid your character will encounter. They are about a meter and a half tall and very gangly. They are rushed mass produced from poor materials. Their joints are shoddily assembled, but they do hold a high-energy laser blaster well enough. They are known for their compliance and the way they say "Roger, Roger" when given commands.

Strengths:
Their numbers. They are almost always found in Companies comprising of 60 – 200 droids arranged in groups of 18 – 50 droids. Sometimes, rarely, they can be encountered as Squads of 6 – 10 droids.

Their weapons. They are armed with high-energy laser blasters.

Weaknesses:
Poor construction. They are made of cheep metal and have no shielding. High-energy weapons (like laser blasters and canons) and EMPs will disable them. A single rock might only scratch or dent them, but enough rocks thrown will take them out. Any blunt force weapon will work if you take them by surprise (which is surprisingly easy to do).

Poor programming. While they have independent motivation programing, they have limited ability to adapt from their primary program so they are easily confused and out maneuvered. They lose formation quickly and sometimes, when their numbers dwindle to few enough, they will turn and run. These droids are very simple and very stupid.

Poor Speed and Mobility. They have weak joints and their best mobility is over smooth, planer surfaces (hint: go for the high ground). They move at a steady march but they don't run very well or fast.

Looting their "wreckage" is a great opportunity for early weapons upgrade of high-energy laser blasters.

BX-Series Droid Commandos

These droids are a vast improvement over the OG Basic Battle Droids. They are made of stronger metal and their joints are assembled with a more intelligent design. And speaking of intelligence, they have better programming.

They are close to two meters tall, and broader than the Basic Battle Droids. Quite sturdy machines.

Strengths:
Construction. These droids are made out of a higher quality and strength of metal. They are resistant to blunt force, non-energy weapons. Their jointing is also superior and they can handle rougher and varied terrain.

Improved programming. They are adaptable in a situation, so they are harder to out maneuver or confuse than the basic battle droids.

Speed and mobility. These fuckers can run, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. They'll even dodge twice.

Their weapons. They are armed with high-energy laser blasters. They also come equipped with two kinds of hand grenades: standard explosive grenades and EMP grenades. These two kinds of grenades are hand-held spheres that are easily thrown or rolled and have a standard blast radius of two meters.

Weaknesses:
No shields. Still no shielding, which makes them vulnerable to high-energy weapons like laser blasters and canons and EMPs.

Fewer numbers. They are only found in squads of six droids.

Looting their wreckage is a great opportunity for early weapons upgrade of high-energy laser blasters and standard explosive and EMP grenades.

Droidekas

These fuckers roll and fuck everything up. They have two mobility forms. They can curl up into a sphere and roll, or unfurl and walk on three legs. When unfurled, their spherical plating acts as rear armor.

Strengths:
Construction. These droids are made from the highest grade of metal armaments resistant to blunt-force weapons.

Mobility. When spherical, they are very fast and can roll over almost any terrain with impressive speed. Unfurled, their multi-joined legs can climb over moderate obstacles.

Advanced Shielding. These droids have personal deflector shield generators that repel or deflect short-range, high-velocity attacks; rendering sidearms or blasters ineffective. They definitely block fast-thrown rocks.

Weaponry. These droids have twin repeating small laser blaster cannons. And the blaster fire is quite rapid.

No lootability of these fuckers' weapons. Sorry, their twin cannons don’t work unless the droids is working. (But using their metal armor is totally fine.)

Weaknesses:
Speed. When unfurled, these droids are slow moving on their legs.

Odd weakness in their shielding. The shielding of these droids does not stop slow moving objects. So say, a slowly rolled EMP grenade would penetrate these shields.

EMPs. An EMP grenade detonated inside their shielding will disable these droids. Same with a standard explosive grenade.

Numbers. These droids only come in pairs.

Limited programming. These fuckers are not adaptable in a highly changeable situation like a battlefield. They are very point-and-shoot at moving things without much processing. Thus, it’s easy to lead them into firing on their allies.

Blind spot. Their sensors are fixed forward, so they have a wide blind spot behind them.

Large, high-energy weapons. Energy blasts from blaster cannons take these fuckers right out.

Vulture Droids

Take all the armament of a Droidekas, but then make them fly. That's right, these fuckers can fly. They can also transform their wings into legs and "walk" on the ground.

Strengths:
Construction. High grade metal armaments resistant to blunt-force weapons.

Aerial Mobility. They fucking fly!

Advanced Shielding. They have personal deflector shield generators that repel or deflect high-velocity small laser canon attacks.

Weaponry. These droids have twin repeating blaster cannons. And their blaster fire is rapid. They also have ion cannons which can disable heavy tanks much like an EMP would. And finally, they have twin energy torpedo launchers.

No lootability of these fuckers. Sorry, their weapons don’t work unless the droids is working.

Weaknesses:
Numbers. There are not too many of them in this battle, just enough to cause a problem when it's least needed.

Land mobility. While they can walk on land, they are NOT graceful at it and need to stick to flat surfaces.

Minimal adaptable programming. They aren’t too difficult to evade. Much like the Droidekas, they are point-and-shoot, and while they can achieve speeds and sharp turns that would knock out a standard human, they don't adapte quickly in the thick of battle.

Large, high-energy weapons. Heavy laser cannon fire will take them out.

Single Trooper Aerial Platform

These are one-droid flying platforms with laser guns attached. They fly. They have cannons that can shoot things. There isn't really much more to say about them.

Strengths:
Speed. These things can be very fast and easily maneuvered.

Numbers. Because they are manned only by the Basic Battle Droid and there are a lot of Basic Battle Droids, there are a lot of these fucking things flying around.

Weapons. These are high energy, rapid fire laser guns. Not as powerful as the lasers from the cannons on the tanks (those are coming up next), but still powerful against a lot of these droids. And while a single blaster bolt from these weapons won't penetrate the shields of the other droids, they can be used to drain the energy of the shields of the more protected droids.

Weaknesses:
Droid pilot error. They are manned by the dumbest droids in the army and if you’re clever, they are easy to take from said stupid droids.

User friendly. They were designed for simple droids to fly, a human will have no problem taking over the controls of one these.

No shielding.

Moderate power cells. They don’t have the same energy in their power cells that the tanks have so they will give out after extended use.

Armored Assault Tank

These are tanks. So, you know. They use repulsorlift technology - they hover. There are two hatches - one at the cannon and one above the main control consoles.

Strengths:
Armor. These assault vehicles have thick, heavy armor plating. Nothing short of a whole ten+ story building falling on them (or the force equivalent) will put a dent in their armor.

Weapons. Heavy laser cannon that swivels all the way around. They also have smaller, lateral laser cannons that are fixed forward.

Weaknesses:
Speed. Top speed is less than 35 mph/55 kph. Sure, your character can't outrun them, but if they have an earth car of our own, they'll out pace these tanks easily.

Numbers. There aren't that many of them.

Heavy laser canon fire will take them out.

Stupid crew. The are manned only by Basic Battle Droids – the really simple, stupid ones. Crew is one pilot and two gunners. Because these are the Basic Battle Droids, they are easily out maneuvered. And someone clever could divest the droids of their tanks.

Droids In Action

Droid Command Centers

The Droid Command Centers

The droids are all controlled by three command centers. There is a command center for each alien planet terrain. They are located in the center of the biggest patches of each kind of terrain.

The centers themselves are spherical structures with thick armor exteriors that are difficult to blast through with the personal laser blasters. Characters will need the heavy cannons from the assault vehicles, and the explosives from the BX-Series droids, to break into the buildings. Though spherical, these buildings are about as tall as a twenty story building, and obviously, they are as wide as they are tall.

The command computer mainframes are located in the very center of each sphere.

Each center is a formidable fortress. Each is protected by it's own personal shield generator that extends an energy shield dome hundreds of meters around the sphere. These shields are just like the ones the Droidekas and Vulture Droids use - they repel high energy/high-velocity attacks but allow slow moving things through. The shield generators are located at the top of spheres so if you can get up to them, a clever character with enough fire power could take out the shields altogether.

The centers are protected by large amounts of each kind of droid and assault vehicles. Inside Basic Battle Droids, BX-Series Droides, and Droidekas patrol (or roll as design requires) through the corridors. Outside every droids and assault vehicles are represented.

Good luck!

The Alien Planet Terrain

Planet: Felucia

Terrain Type: Humid jungle, heavy, thick, tall foliage.
Moons: 8

The plants of Felucia in these patches are mostly fungi, but they come in extraordinary colors: deep purples, blues, greens, teals, and pinks and oranges. If this wasn't a war zone, it would be quite pretty, actually. However, 100% of the plants are poisonous with 99% being just hallucinogenic (to varying degrees of hallucinations and incapacitation abilities) and 1% being instant death. Like, don't lick the plants, okay, and your character will be just fine. (Should go without saying, but some character just might be tempted, we don't know!). The temperatures here are a nice 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit day or night, but it's always, ALWAYS uncomfortably humid.

This terrain is the most advantageous for the characters because of how thick and concealing the foliage is. The plants are big enough to hide behind and will cause the droids on foot to disburse in order to navigate the land. Think smart, characters!

The BX-Series Droids will have the greatest advantage of all the droids because of their ability to adapt and move through the terrain. The droidekas and the vulture droids will have to waste time and energy blasting through the foliage in order to move or clear enough land to see the characters. The same is to be said of both of the vehicles - cannons pack a punch but if you can't find your target then what's the point?

Planet: Geonosis

Terrain Type: Desert, rocky/mountainous, dusty/dirty
Moons: 15!

Geonosis is one of Star Wars' many desert trash planets. Temperatures in these patches are extreme on both ends of the spectrum but like, lucky for all the characters, there is no lava. LOL. During the day it is hot - how hot? You know, like Death Valley hot, so an average day is between 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, again as desert trash dictates, these extremely cold temps sit around 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Visibility is generally clear IF nothing is disturbing the dust. But once the fighting starts, that fine layer of dust that covers everything kicks up and visibility goes way down. So does the breathability. It's lucky for the droids they don't have to take in oxygen! Too bad our characters do. The dust will also make it really hard to seen the tan metal of the Basic Battle Droids (omg, they have this one slight advantage!)

Surviving the elements is doable here, none of the patches will be so big that your character can't reasonably make it through without getting more than a bit sunburnt/hyperthermia... unless they get boxed in by droids! Basically, wear sunscreen, pack some water and a parka at the same time, and maybe an air purifier.

There are mountains and rocky caverns for the highs and lows of the terrain. But even the "flat" stretches of land are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Which is GREAT news for the characters - so much natural cover and defenses against the droids. Except from above, like, looking down it's pretty easy to see someone hiding behind some rocks.

Vulture droids have the best advantage here because those fuckers fly. BX-Series and Droidekas will do moderately well in this terrain given their relative ease of mobility. Basic Battle Droids suck, so, you know.

The flying platforms will do better here than the tanks because they can easily maneuver around the loads of rocks. Tanks will get stuck easily and be vulnerable to the clever.

Planet: Orto Plutonia

Terrain Type: Cold, ice, rocky
Moons: One

Orto Plutonia is a planet with all over freezing temperatures and is covered in ice and sheer, dark rock outcroppings.

Patches of this terrain will be full of snow and ice and a few slippery rock formations. Chances that it will be a blizzard will be high and visibility throughout the patch will be low. It's a good thing that harmful laser blasts are visible. Temperatures are generally freezing or below. The possibility of getting trapped in one of these patches is high even without droids boxing your character in, especially in the patches of this terrain that span many city blocks. Because while this terrain is the most uncovered and open, with the low visibility from the blizzards and the negative temperatures, without the proper gear, a human just doesn't stand a chance. Maybe try to avoid these patches altogether.

The smarter droids will use these patches to their advantage because they won't have a problem with the extreme temperatures. Some droids (aka, the dumbest, poorly constructed droids) will have trouble because they are dumb and poorly constructed, obviously. That doesn't mean their blaster fire won't still kill. And there are plenty of smart droids that will have no problem traversing these elements.

BX-Series and Vulture droids will have the best advantage of the droids. Droidekas will have the hardest time physically with this terrain because rolling on ice is hilariously ill-advised. Basic Battle Droids just always suck so like, you know, have fun with that.

The assault vehicles will also do well in this terrain. The flying platforms will be cold considering they are exposed to the elements, but they will still fly. The tanks will do fine unless they get caught in the rocky outcroppings - hey, maybe your character can use that to their advantage?

Opting Out

Players who do not wish to engage with this plot have a few options:

Option One: Your character takes a trip out of the city for the duration of the plot
Characters are still welcome to leave NYC whenever they want. They could take a trip down to Disneyworld during the time of the plot. Or over to Europe (there are Disneylands over there, too). Or a business trip.

There are a few drawbacks to this:
1) The network/all the characters back in NYC will be inaccessible to all who are outside NYC during this plot. If your character tries to access the Network during this time, they will get a "404 Page Not Found Error". If they try to call, the phone will either just keep ringing or it will go to voice mail and the receiving character will not get it until the plot ends. If they send a text, it will be left on read until the plot is over. If they send an email, the other character will not get it until the plot ends. This is because the Network and everyone inside NYC are on a third plane of existence during the plot.

2) Characters who are outside of NYC during the plot and who try to get back in will find their travel plans are all delayed. If they check the news, a major storm system will have rolled in over NYC and all flights/trains are delayed/re-routed. If your character tries to drive back in, they'll get a flat or the car will break down or all the buses are booked or cars rented. There will always be a reasonable explanation for why your character's travel plans are delayed until the end of the plot. Frustrating, but...

Option Two: Mysterious Coma
At the very start of the plot, when the convergence happens, your character can fall under a mysterious coma - something about the convergence overwhelms them. The Bureau will know immediately (how? The Bureau has ~ways~ of knowing.) The Bureau will retrieve your character and take them back to their building and keep a safe watch over them in their medical wing.

Option Three: Death at the Start of the Plot
Your character is asleep and they never even see the bomb/laser blast that hits their building. They can just remain out for the rest of the plot then come back at the end.

However - to return after death in this plot comes at a price:
1) 10% of Regain Memories are taken back, OR
2) 20% of Regained Powers are taken back, OR
3) An item they've regained is taken back

All of these things can be regained again in the future, but death will set a character back some.

The Opt-Out Lite Option: Hiding at the Bureau
Don't want your character fighting for their life? They can just hide at the Bureau Building during the whole plot. This will be the one Safe Space in the whole city. The invasion will be happening all around them, but inside the Bureau Building is safety. Characters will be taken to a part of the building that feels like a college dorm - characters will be given healthy food in a cafeteria, a private (though small) room to sleep in and dorm-like bathroom amenities. Your character can chill here with any of the other characters that choose to stay any amount of time in the building. Characters will be allowed to come and go as they please.

The deal is: characters have to ask the Bureau for help. Once that call is made, the Bureau will be there to help your character as fast as they got to your character during their Memory Event. Note: There will never been an instance of the Bureau NOT helping a character in a timely fashion if the character asks for help. If your character calls, the Bureau will be there.

Questions

What parts of NYC are still here?
Basically everything that isn't superseded by patches of the alien planets. All the character's homes will be here - no patch will cover up a character's home. Your character will at least get to wake up in their own bed to see the bright autumn sun reveal the invading droid army. All their fav restaurants, places of entertainment, business establishments - all here.

What will happen to Third Plane of Existence NYC?
It's going to get wrecked! Go forth and have fun writing out this destruction (but remember to use proper warnings).

What are the boundaries of the plot for the characters stuck in NYC?
NYC - if they try to leave, droids will naturally close them in and force them back into the heart of the city.

What will still work (ie electronics, cell phones)
A lot of electronics still being able to work will depend on if their is still electricity.

But cell phones will NOT work - third plane of existence, y'all - save for access to the Network, provided your character's phone has power. That is SO weird! Time to raid a super store or army surplus depot for walkie talkies!

Is there even electricity still? Running water?
Some parts of the city will lose power, other parts no. Some parts will have running water, some no. Players can play that out how they want. The Bureau Building will ALWAYS have electricity and power and water - why? Go ask Mr. Martin! ;)

Where are the safe spaces in NYC?
There is only one safe space in the city: The Bureau Building. All other buildings are subject to droid destruction.

The Bureau seems to have shielding to keep out the invading forces and supplies to withstand this siege.

Characters who ask for the Bureau's help will be taken to a part of the building that feels like a college dorm - characters will be given healthy food in a cafeteria, a private (though small) room to sleep in, and dorm-like bathroom amenities. Your character can chill here with any of the other characters that choose to stay any amount of time in the building. Characters will be allowed to come and go as they please.

Where did they get this shielding? Where did they get all their supplies to withstand an invading army?!?!
Very good questions, maybe try asking Mr. Martin ;)

Can my character use this time to try to explore the Bureau Building
No, they will only have access to that dorm like area (unless the mods have given your specific character permission to go other place - such as characters currently employed with the Bureau.)

Can my character run into the Bureau Heads of Departments while moving in and out of and through the Bureau Building?
The Department Heads are very busy, your character will only see them from afar.

Will the Bureau supply my character with weapons?
No. LOL.

Can my character gain Star Wars Powers for the plot?
No. No one will get extra powers due to the plot.

Can my character die in this plot?
Yes! But there will be a price to bring them back at the end of the plot.
1) 10% of Regain Memories are taken back, OR
2) 20% of Regained Powers are taken back, OR
3) An item they've regained is taken back

All of these things can be regained again in the future, but death will set a character back some. Talk to the mods IF you want your character to die during this plot so we can work out a price.

And remember to use trigger warnings for your death scenes.

Can my character get injured?
Yes! Minor injuries are up to the player to decide willy nilly. Major injuries just talk to the mods first just so we know what's up.

Remember to use trigger warnings for your scenes involving injury.

Can my character loot things from the Star Wars Universe?
Only what can be found on the Droid bodies and vehicles. So: weapons, damaged droid bodies, vehicles.

Will this loot persist after the end of the plot?
Yes, with moderation. Only stuff that:
A) your character has carried back to their homes, AND/OR
B) your character is in physical contact with at the end of the plot

will remain with your character when the plot ends.

Is there a way for the characters to end the invasion?
YES!

How do they end the invasion?
They will need to find the three Droid Command Centers and destroy them.

Where are the three Droid Command Centers
There is a command center in a patch of each of the three alien planetary terrains. They will be in the center of those patches. These will be the largest patches of each of the three terrains. Once those centers are blown up, the droids will stop working. HOWEVER, they won't be found until mid-plot and then the mods will put up catch-all posts for you lovely players to hash out who is attacking which facility.

While you lovely players will be the architects of writing out your character's planning and executing the destruction of these centers, the actual destruction will happen the last day of the plot, Sept. 30 - one big explosion finale! So whatever you all play out, OOCly know to hit these points:
1) Mid-plot, the Bureau will let the characters know the Centers have been located.

2) The Bureau will know the characters are planning to attack and in an unusual move, provide each attack group 10-12 Elite Troops from their personal Security Guards to assist. These troops will provide support for the characters plan. They are competent, skilled fighters.

3) However/whatever the characters' plan, the Final Battles will be planned for Sept. 30

4) The Centers must be utterly destroyed for the droids to stop.

So wait for the signal (aka, the posting of the Catch-All), THOUGH, y'all can start discussing now how you wanna divide teams and conquer.

Holy shit! The Bureau has Elite Commando Security Guards?
Ya, they have a LOT of things that are yet to be revealed! Just marvel at them doing something outwardly helpful.

Are there any other Star Wars NPCs?
No. There are no Jedi to fight along side. No Sith to join. No Mandalorians to drink with. Just the droids mentioned above. And there are only those four types mentioned above.

Can my character capture a droid?
You can try! They are programmed to kill you character so, yikes, it will be tough to get one while it's still fully functional. And good luck keeping it captive.

Can my character find other Star Wars tech?
No, only what is described above.

Can my character find Star Wars flora/fauna in the patches?
Flora? Sure, but only what is in that patches' planet's terrain (see what we describe above).
Fauna? No, animals didn't come through.

How realistic are the EMP grenades?
Very! But they have a very localized blast radius - about two meters. However, if your character is caught in that radius, good-bye cell phone or any other electronics not shielded from EMP blasts.

Do the droids know hand to hand combat fighting?
Nope, they have laser blasters!

Can my character fight a droid using hand to hand combat fighting styles?
LOL, sure, go punch a droid! It'll HURT because they are made of metal. But have fun punching and kicking them!

Can my character dismantle a droid and refashion its metal shell as personal protection?
Clever girl character! Do what you want with the droid wreckages.

How come there are only 4 types of droids and only 2 assault vehicle types?
The Star Wars universe has a ton of other droid types and assault vehicle tpes, yes. But for simplicity sake the mods narrowed this plot to what is described above, too many droid types spoil the soup and all. Plus we can only write so much, okay?

What will the skies look like within the patches of alien plant terrain?
During the day, the characters will see those planets' suns from inside the patches. At night, they'll see the stars and moons as they would look from those worlds.

But once your character steps outside those patches, they'll see Earth's sun, moon, and stars.

I have more questions!
Ask them below!
